liamegan2000 MemberHello Stan, welcome to the group. There were 91 episodes spread over 8 series
broadcast originally from 1971 to 1980. If you have satellite or cable TV and
live in the UK the first two series are being shown on UK Drama
channel starting on Monday. These are also available commercially on DVD (or VHS
tape) check Amazon or eBay etc.As for series 4 onwards these are not
available on tape or DVD commercially yet and I don't know if they ever
will be, which is a shame as there are so many good story lines as the saga
unfolds in the later episodes. The whole series was repeated on UK Gold about
1993-94 so there is a chance they will appear again one day. Members of this
list keep mailing the cable channel UK Drama asking for more of the series to be
shown (at least I hope they do) so who knows maybe we'll get another series or
two out of them.I made a small website with some info and links to
other Onedin themed sites at:http://www.sound-research.co.uk/onedin_line.htm You
might find it interesting.Bill.style="PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:5px;MARGIN-LEFT:5px;BORDER-LEFT:#000000 2px solid;MARGIN-RIGHT:0px;"> —– Original Message —–From:

liamegan2000 MemberI vaguely remember some controversy when the
episode was originally aired, in those days it was my mother who was the big fan
of the series and I had to keep quiet while it was on – if I was in! I
think there was some complaints about the portrayal of black people being
stereotyped, that sort of thing. but after all these years I'm not really
sure.Having said that I think the decision to cut
it (and Bloody Week) was more to do with running time of VHS tapes,
you can get different standard length tapes for PAL (Europe) which are mainly 2,
3, and 4 hours. For America's NTSC system I think the equivalent gives
shorter time for the same amount of tape, or US readers may put me right on
this. Any length of tape of within the limits of the system is possible but
I would suppose it might be a question of production cost?Bill.style="PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:5px;MARGIN-LEFT:5px;BORDER-LEFT:#000000 2px solid;MARGIN-RIGHT:0px;"> —– Original Message —–From:

28/07/2005liamegan2000 MemberDiana,I just checked 2 episodes the BBC
broadcast repeated during the 50 year anniversary of the beeb (IIRC
1986?)The running time for episodes 3 (Other Points Of
The Compass) and 4 (The High Price) were according to the TCM on the video
machine 49 minutes 10 seconds (give or take few seconds difference), this
is from the beginning of the opening title to the end of the closing title. I
have a few more of these original from the beeb episodes along with the closing
credits of the Clothes Show. I'll check the running times on those when I'm
feeling bored.Anyhow. From UK Drama, with all the adverts edited
out and again from opening to closing titles, Ep 3 is 46 minutes 43 seconds, Ep
4 is 47 minutes 15 seconds.Quickly looking through a sample of all the UK
Drama episodes the run times are all in this area. Something around 2 minutes
would appear to be missing from every one of them. One thing I did notice when editing and did
not check on was that the repeat episode broadcast early in the morning only had
1.5 minute advert slots instead of the usual 3-4 minute ones during the day.
(I'd recorded this because I messed up editing one of the daytime
slots and needed the first 25 minutes of it) I did not check however if the
overall running time was different, I doubt it was, as they would not bother to
do a different edit for that slot? The extra time was probably filled up with
upcoming programme information or something.Bill.—– Original Message —–

Subject: Re: [shiponedingroup] the eps on UK
DramaHi, Re not including Bloody Week in the videos, I guess
there wasn't room for all the episodes and it was decided to omit one episode
from each series and also make cuts to the others so each series would fit on
four videos. They probably picked on Bloody Week because it is (in my
opinion anyway) the weakest of the second series and, other than the
Elizabeth/Albert angle, is pretty much a stand alone story so its omission
wouldn't affect the continuing storylines. In terms of the cuts made by
UKTV Drama, if you watch the BBC video of 'Frisco Bound and compare, you'll see
that the scene with Anne & James in the cabin of the Charlotte Rhodes before
she sails is totally cut as well as the scene when the ship returns and James
walks down the gangplank and kisses Anne. I particularly noticed those two
cuts as 'Frisco Bound is one of my fav episodes and UKTV Drama ruined the
episode for me.I've only watched 2/3 episodes in their entirety so far
but I think every episode has been cut by I guess two to three minutes.
Bill, I would be interested to know how much has been cut when you get round to
checking your old tapes. When the BBC originally broadcast series one and
two in 1971 and 1972, each episode had a fifty minute timeslot with opening and
ending credits. However, this would also have included a bit of time for
BBC programme trailers so each episode in its entirety is probably approx. 48
minutes.Diana Date: 28/07/2005 liamegan2000 Member2 episode were dropped one each from series 1 and

Yes thanks for that, I persevered and ordered the
DVDs from the Dutch seller, I'm not the sort of person who will bid on
eBay for something like this, I always get pipped at the post at the
last minute! Now if I figured out the thing correctly (Babel
fish translation) and it doesn't get shipped to Antarctica or somewhere I shall
be the very pleased owner of series 3🙂Bill.style="PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:5px;MARGIN-LEFT:5px;BORDER-LEFT:#000000 2px solid;MARGIN-RIGHT:0px;"> —– Original Message —–From:

guides on my site.I must get on and write some more. I thought I'd
concentrate on the last series (8). I would appreciate anyone who wants to

as always credits will be given. Those of you who have websites related to the

 want.ATB Bill.liamegan2000 Member
Diana, Marianne,Not found it on ebay, will
have another look tonight when I have a bit of free time, found it on http://www.nl.bol.com ok but I can't figure out
how to order it – my liguistic skill in Dutch being zero. € 24,99 for the
whole series 3 seems a reasonable price though.Again when I have a little time to while away, I'll
check the running time from my old tapes against the UK Drama broadcasts (ads
removed) on a couple of episodes to see how much is cut.Thanks,Bill. liamegan2000 MemberDiana,Thanks for the information.Very annoying when an episode is missed. I have
been putting 2 episodes onto one DVD which maintains the quality very
nicely. A vast improvement on my old off-air poor quality recordings made with a
worn-out VCR and better picture quality than the commercial VHS
tape. Pity about the DOG (digital overlay graphic – in this case the
UKDrama logo) at the top of the screen and the cuts made for
important news about debt management, low cost phone call schemes, and
what's-on-later messages. Overall I find them acceptable and better than buying
the commercial release on DVD with 2 episodes missing (after buying
the VHS version I begrudge forking out again for them on DVD) and quite
watchable after all the ads have been edited out.Which brings me around to the question, and I'm
sorry if someone has covered this before and I missed it, has anyone bought
series 3 on DVD and if so what is it like? Are
all the episodes on it? Again I'm sorry, but I have completely forgotten where
this was available from a search in Google failed to find it.Thanks,Bill.style="PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:5px;MARGIN-LEFT:5px;BORDER-LEFT:#000000 2px solid;MARGIN-RIGHT:0px;"> —– Original Message —–From:

SeptemberThe September listings have just been published and The

on throughout the month, continuing from Wind Blows Free on
 31 August.
September starts with Plain Sailing.Weekday times
are 6.00 am, 12.00 midday, and 6.00 pm
 Saturday no episode
 Sunday 4
 Sept: 3 episodes at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30 - repeating those
 broadcast during

Sunday 11 Sept: 5 episodes starting at 7.30 - again
 repeating those

picture quality is noticeable but acceptable for just the small sections that

also a short cut in Albert Frazer's dialog about Elizabeth with James on
the ship. There was approximately one and a half minutes
missing from the transmitted episode. I'll see what subsequent episode are like

Onedin episodesHi, Did anyone else notice that UKTV Drama skipped
 part of the proposal
scene from "The Wind Blows Free"? The episode has
 Anne saying
 ".....
poor bedfellows, Captain Onedin", then there's an
 advert break, and
the episode continues with James saying, "For richer or

poorer .....". The piece re James having "ambition enough for an

army of Napoleons" has been cut.Did any of you notice other
cuts? There was one other place which
didn't seem quite right to me,
again when there were adverts, but
 I
 can't recall where this
 occurred.Diana
