Many apologies for not putting the description on the site yet.

I'm having trouble accessing the webspace again.

Should be working by tomorrow I'm told.

PS Dino how have you got on getting Onedin episodes? Any luck with the

Yes all 8 series are commercially available on DVD from the Netherlands. And
can be obtained from various sites selling them. They turn up on Amazon and
eBay pretty well all the time. These are as noted all PAL region 2 discs.

I obtained the full set over a period of a few years, they probably cost me
in the region of £80 in total. They could probably be got for less than that
    now as pre-owned etc.

They have the jackets in the Dutch language, and the DVD have Dutch
subtitles, these can be turned off when you play them so no problem, and the
soundtrack is in the original English.

You should also note that series 1 and 2 are often in non-episode form,
these lack two episodes, in series 1, Cry of The Blackbird, series 2 Bloody
Week. This did not worry me since I have good quality copies of the two
    episodes.

But the full episode versions are now available for these two series, you
just have to be careful if you want them in episode form when buying.

All the rest are the complete episode versions.

    Bill.

I think Dino was concerned with the fact that the official DVD releases are
not suitable for his NTSC TV.

I know this has been a problem with people I traded official DVDs with years
ago. We in the UK can play either system on most equipment, and any region
with the corect hack applied tothe player, but the reverse is not true on
most TVs and players in North America.

As far as I know XviD avi files are not affected and will play via a
suitable stand alone disc player, or a media extender to a TV display of
    either type, NTSC or PAL.

It is also possible to convert PAL DVD to NTSC by 'ripping' them to files on
a PC then using and then re-authoring with an app such as TMPGEnc DVD Author
3 (expensive to buy) or FAVC.exe (free) and burn to DVD-r discs. But this
    takes time and some know-how.

The big advantage with trying the share sites .avi is that it will cost
    nothing to try them.

    Bill.

    Dear Bill,
could you look at the latest write up – from Series 3 ptrogramme 3 – hope
    its OK

Echoes from Afar. By Alun Richards
    Description by Viv Dodd.
James and Baines are on the Charlotte Rhodes. James has a fever but has
plans for trade with Brazil. Frazer, also, is looking to the country that is
due to build railways and needs coal. Caroline Maudsley hears her uncle and
Fogarty talking about taking a steamer up a tidal river.
Meanwhile, in Portugal, Braghanza's son,Jose, is refusing to go to England
to help with the wine business – he is more interested in studying tropical
sea shells! Braghanza writes to James to ask for his help.
In Liverpool, Captain Webster is agitated because he cannot find a sight of
the steamship `Anne Onedin' and he tells a rather distracted Robert but
Sarah is tiring of having to look after him and James' daughter Charlotte.
Nobody is on the quay to greet James but the preparations of a meal and the
young, attentive Leonora wait at home. She receives little gratitude and
attention as James reads the letter from Braghanza; Sarah brings news and
complains about Webster who then enters to pester James about his failure to
find the Anne Onedin. James confirms the old man's findings and says "
Robert's nowhere to be found which probably means he knows summat and
    doesn't want to tell us"
Capt Webster is dispatched to Portugal with Baines to look after him. James
challenges Frazer about the Anne Onedin. Frazer maintains that James has
lost the ship because bills have outstripped her value and she has been
sold, leaving a balance of £1,000 – the Wirral Steam Navigation Company now
own her – a ship for which £100,000 worth of shares were floated. James
leaves Frazer's office bewildered and still feverish. Caroline sees him
leave and Frazer confides to her that he believes James to be on `the
    downward path'.
Caroline finds out that the Anne Onedin has been renamed the `Scotch Lass'
and Frazer is the chief shareholder of the Wirral Company and tells James.
Fogarty is sent to Greenock where the Scotch Lass is moored to sail her to
Brazil. Leonora and Caroline meet at James' house – neither shows much
    degree of friendship.
Jose has been tricked into boarding the ship to Liverpool and James
introduces him to Elizabeth to appease and entertain him but James is now
well again and determined to outwit Frazer over the ship and Brazil trade.

    Dear Bill,
I attach another episode – from series 3 for perusal and acceptance. Hope
    its OK
SERIES 3 : Programme 2 – THE STRANGER by Cyril Abraham.
    Resume – Viv Dodd
The Osiris, bound for Liverpool with James and Baines, is becalmed at the
mouth of the Amazon river when James sees a native dugout canoe and
retrieves an unconscious woman from it. They nurse her back to health but
she remembers little of her ordeal and does not know who she is. Finding
Anne's travelling chest that James always keeps with him, she replaces the
seaman's garb given to her with one of Anne's old dresses and shawls. When
James comes below he sees the woman's reflection in a mirror and is confused
into thinking it is Anne. Baines arrives to calm the situation, bring James
back to reality and he explains James' reaction to the woman.
Back in Liverpool, the coal miners have gone on strike, Robert is becoming
increasingly harassed by having to find replacement cargoes for Onedin ships
in James' absence aswell as see to his own business and becoming a
councilor. He enters into a `gentleman's agreement' with Jack Frazer that
the Baltic trade should not be interfered with by Onedin ships and that, as
a result, he would be given a contract to provision Frazer ships. Sarah is
more and more engrossed in her charity work – enthusiastically encouraged by
Leonora who, if she cannot be close to James, at least associates with his
    family.
On their return to the port, James takes the woman to his sister Elizabeth's
house and her father in law, Jack Frazer, is there also. Immediately Frazer
recognizes the woman as his niece, Caroline Maudsley who is startled into
remembering that her husband, Geoffrey had been killed by natives. It
becomes evident that she is a rich, independent woman of the world with a
strong will and mind of her own. She is happy to stay with Elizabeth which
helps alleviate her problem of a lack of income due to Albert's absence in
    the Argentine.
Leonora is busy supplying at least one miners family with bread – that of
her maid. James decides to do something about the the strikers and with the
help of ale and gift of bread and cheese, induces the ringleaders to sign as
seamen. When sobered up, they refuse to sail and most are jailed for 3
months, including the husband of Leonora's maid. Leonora staunchly supports
James' actions and sees it as an act of philanthropy to help starving the
    miners' families.
James is not pleased with Robert's gentleman's agreement and, as no contract
had been signed, dispatches him and Baines to get a Baltic cargo from
Goteburg in direct contradiction of it. Fogarty tricks Robert into obtaining
a low value cargo of `oats and Lucifers' – nothing that Frazer's would
want – there by allowing him to keep the contract to supply his ships.
On his return, Robert is left in no doubt about James' view on his
inadequacies but James is pragmatic. He tells Robert `I treat the world the
way the world treats me. I've no conscience to hold me back now' he says,
glancing at a picture of Anne and he decides to leave the Baltic to Frazer.
A rejuvenated Caroline enters to thank James formally for his rescue. She is
followed by Mr Plimsoll whose cause she ardently supports – that is, the
marking of a `load line' to prevent danger to sailors from owners wishing to
overload their ships. She reprimands James for his treatment of the miners
    and the
conditions for sailors on his ships – they deserve better. James says,' a
    man doesn't
get what he deserves, he gets what he earns'. To James amusement, Caroline
says `you are a man entirely without compassion'.
On her exit, Robert says `By James, there goes a woman of spirit'.
`Aye, more than the sea could dowse, eh?' James.
`Aye, she likes to put her oar in and all and she's not without influence'
    Robert.
    James' not with me'.
Robert, 'strikes me, you hauled out more than you could handle when you
fished her out of the sea'.
`Well, if she's any trouble, we can always throw her back again eh?'

Many apologies for the delay in putting the description on the site after
    your hard work writing it.

I've been away on holiday for the past few weeks.

I will get around to it soon.

    Dear Bill,
I attach another episode – from series 3 for perusal and acceptance. Hope

Must say it came as surprise to me too, I scan the programme schedules now
    and again but missed that.

CJB suggested using thebox torrent site which is a good solution. I believe
this might involve a donation, perhaps he could tell us a bit more about it?

Or perhaps start up some sort of exchange between those who have recorded it
    and those who missed them.

DVD-r discs are very cheap, and in a paper or better still plastic sleeve
are very durable, and fit in an envelope that will go on a first class
    stamp, anywhere in the UK.

So get the recorders going and if one or two episodes have been missed, I'm
pretty certain an appeal for them might be worth a try on here…

You can also buy any or all of the series on DVD of course!

sorry forgot to add the description !!!!!!

SERIES 2 PROGRAMME 9 BEYOND THE UPPER SEA by MORIS FARHI.
    Viv Dodd.
Another favourite of mine as we see James relaxed and willing to pay some
attention to Anne. James (or Peter Gilmore) is also allowed to show some
    humour

Albert shows off his steam pinnace to Sulleman – a Turkish minister – who
invites him to go to Turkey to inspect a steam engine well in advance of its
time. Albert persuades James that the trip would help him to redesign their
developing steamer, the Golden Nugget and James agrees to take him in return
for a cargo of Turkish tobacco. Elizabeth refuses to go but Anne sets sail.
Anne is amused by Baines' over enticing description of the Turkish maidens
and their `silky pantaloons' vividly portrayed to the rest of the crew and
James attention is drawn to it.
At home, Emma Callon is feeling `rushed' into marriage but Elizabeth's
opinion is that she appears frightened of men.
Albert, James and Anne are welcomed to the hospitality of the Turks by
Sulleman and Sir Charles – the representative of the British government.
Handmaidens are allocated to see to the needs of all but when Anne enters to
find James being undressed for his bath by a group of females she dismisses
them and James insists she see to her wifely duties by preparing him.
Albert becomes besotted with one of the girls – Leyla but Sulleman confesses
that there is no revolutionary steam engine for Albert to see but he wishes
him to stay and develop steam ships for the Turkish navy. Religious
fundamentalists are plotting against the Sultan and Sulleman's western views
but Albert, enticed by Leyla, tells James he is going to stay in Turkey. Sir
Charles warns James that the religious fanatics are showing displeasure at
Albert's appointment and that a strong Turkish navy could threaten British
    trade and naval interests.
Whilst aboard ship James, Anne and Baines have a visitor from the past –
Fletcher – one of Jessop's seamen's council that had been imprisoned. He
tells them of the eruption of the volcano on Santorin which had now
interrupted the supply of pumice, used to waterproof the cement used for the
Suez Canal. A large amount of money would be made by any captain willing to
sail to the island and he knew how to get there and where a steamship could
be acquired. He would act as guide – for a cut of the profits. James agrees.
Anne and James call in to see Albert before they sail and James tries to
persuade him to return with them `Have you considered Elizabeth?' Elizabeth
has written to say that she will not join Albert and he says (almost
prophecying what is going to happen) `You, Anne, you'd follow James through
hell and high water. You'd die for him and so would he for you but
Elizabeth, well she will always do what is best for Elizabeth'.
James and Anne head for Santorin by steamship whilst Baines is left to load
the cargo of tobacco on the Charlotte Rhodes. Both are fascinated by the
ship's steam engine but James is not entirely enamoured `What happens if yer
engine breaks down? Wait for a sailing ship to come by?' – they soon get the
chance to see as silence descends aboard and James says to Anne in
exasperation `I can see us drifting for ever. Never seeing land again.
    Steamships!!'.
Meanwhile Sulleman is murdered by the religious fanatics with a plot to
    blame Albert but
Leyla has him drugged and smuggled aboard the Charlotte Rhodes with orders
    for
    Baines to sail immediately.
Santorin erupts as James waits for a load of pumice and he has to sail away
for their safety but they leave Fletcher on the island, injured and crawling
    into the sea.

    Ah!

Well here we go. It seems the BBC doesn't want me to contact them at that
address, and just generates some bot auto-reply.

Looks like I'm going to have to dig around to find some human I can talk to
at the Beeb, shields seem to be up on a personal level.

How different from a few years ago when you got a nice reply off someone, I
suppose the £3.5 billion per year they get off us in licence fees is not
enough to fund some personal attention to its customers anymore?

That telephone number looks like it might be a premium rate one too?

Here's the reply I just got from them:

and their `silky pantaloons' vividly portrayed to the rest of the crew and
James attention is drawn to it.

Episode description by: Viv Dodd, Goodbye Goodbye.

I've uploaded the description to the website. Taken a while I know…

    Access via:
    http://www.sound-research.co.uk/onedin_line.htm#eps

I've still got issues with being able to access the upload for my site since
I had a new router installed, but hopefully this should soon be a thing of
    the past.

    Bill.
