    Hi Bill,

The series 3 DVDs contain ALL the episodes
    and they’re uncut.

They’re frequently for sale on eBay.

    The quality is very good.

    Diana,

    Thanks for the information.

Very annoying when an episode is missed. I have been putting
2 episodes onto one DVD which maintains the quality very nicely. A vast
improvement on my old off-air poor quality recordings made with a
worn-out VCR and better picture quality than the commercial VHS
tape. Pity about the DOG (digital overlay graphic – in this case the
UKDrama logo) at the top of the screen and the cuts made for
important news about debt management, low cost phone call schemes,
and what's-on-later messages. Overall I find them acceptable and better than
buying the commercial release on DVD with 2 episodes missing (after buying
the VHS version I begrudge forking out again for them on DVD) and quite
watchable after all the ads have been edited out.

Which brings me around to the question, and I'm sorry if
someone has covered this before and I missed it, has anyone bought series 3 on
DVD and if so what is it like? Are all the episodes on it? Again I'm sorry, but
I have completely forgotten where this was available from a search in Google
    failed to find it.

    Thanks,

    Bill.

The September listings have just been published and The Onedin Line is
on throughout the month, continuing from Wind
    Blows Free on 31 August.

    September starts with Plain Sailing.

Weekday times are 6.00 am, 12.00 midday, and 6.00
    pm

    Saturday no episode
    Sunday 4 Sept: 3 episodes at 9.30, 10.30, 11.30 -
    repeating those

    broadcast during the previous week
    Sunday 11 Sept: 5 episodes starting at 7.30 -
    again repeating those

    broadcast the previous week

So if you've missed any episodes, there's another
    opportunity to record

    them.

Bill, Pound and Pint is scheduled for Thursday 22
    September & 10.30 on

Sunday 25 - but the schedule isn't always
    accurate!

    Hello Anna and all the
    other members of the group,

The site is down for a
short time because it was hacked. Someone thought it was funny to put
irrelevant info on it about the other Peter Gilmore (the Satanist).

    I’m waiting now for
an answer from the provider, if everything is solved the first thing I’ll
do is upload the site again and with more info.

    I hope it won’t
take too long but for sure the site will come back.

I was wondering if anyone can answer me . I am
trying to get to the Anne Stallybrass and Peter Gilmore site, for some reason
or another it no longer comes up, has the site been closed down ? Also, what
has happened to the song " Home-Lovin' Man " sung by Peter Gilmore,
the file cannot be opened , has that also been shut down for some reason or
another, I would greatly appreciate some answers !

    Hi everybody,

    There’s also another
solution. I have a programme, and it’s free to download from internet,
which copies every DVD. You can even choose in which region code you want to
have the copy. So If there’s a need to copy the series 3 in DVD region 1
I’ll be willing to make a copy which can circulate for those who have the
    US DVD system.

    The name of the programme
is DVD Shrink and it’s easy to use.

What pieces of music were used for the TV show, The Onedin Line? When
I saw the show years ago, I recognized parts of the 5th, 8th and 10th
symphonies of Dmitri Shostakovich, the 1st symphony of Gustav Mahler
and the 5th symphony of Jean Sibelius (along with the Spartacus score
by Khachaturian). Were any other works used for background music on
    The Onedin Line? Just curious.

    Hi Bill,

I don't have any info if the first episode of the Onedin Line was different from the first one in the series. Peter, Howard, Brian, Mary and Jessica were in it. Only Anne was played by Sheila Allen.
There´s a book about the work of Peter Graham Scott in which he tells that the whole first episode was remade. They weren´t aware it should become such a hit. Peter G. Scott was pleased he could ask Anne Stallybrass to do the character of Anne Onedin as he admired her already for a long time. Sheila Allen regretted afterwards she wasn´t able to do Anne´s role.

The tape is wiped as you say.

I was idly scanning through the episode list that Dianna so kindly supplied
us with in the files area after completing the capture of every episode to
PC media when I wondered does anyone remembers seeing the pilot show  Drama
Playhouse - The Onedin Line  The Wind Blows Free broadcast in 1970?

Were the cast any different from those in the series and was the story
slightly different? I don't suppose there is any video of it in existence.
These were the days before the vcr made its way into our front rooms and I
know the BBC tended to wipe and reused the studio recordings to economise on
    tape

The story was slightly different in the books too, I last saw them in our
local library (and only in large print) about 12 years ago.

A bit of trivia for a wet and very hot and humid evening (well it is in NW
    England).

Next Saturday a journalist is coming to visit me for a Dutch magazine. He's coming to see my collection re. Onedin Line, Anne and Peter. He also contacted Anne and Peter's Agencies because he wants to interview them. I'll ask him how far he is with that and, if he can do the interview, if he will tell them about the group and the meeting next year. Doubt if Peter will come as he's not too well at the moment.

    Hi shipmates,

An idea struck me to organize an Onedin fan meeting in Germany or
Holland when I thought about the much entries in my guestbook.
I think, a large international tall ship event event like Hansesail
    could give a suitable ambiente.
(for instance at http://hansesail.com/englisch/start.htm, 3.-5. Aug.
2004) Of course, the time is very short by then. But perhaps next
    year?
And if we have luck does anybody of the actors accept an invitation
    to be special guest...
I've put this idea in the news at http://onedinlinie.de and now I'm
waiting for reply of the German fans.

What you all think about this?

    Hi Bill,

The recorder I have is a Sony RDR-GX7 and I'm very content with it.
I can record from the television and also copy video's on DVD. There is a trick to get the region code out but still had no time to do. On internet I saw you can also buy them now with region 1 and 2.
The quality is very good, you can choose the record time (from 60 minutes till 4 hours). Most of the time I use 120 or 180 minutes.

In my PC I have a Pinnacle card for recording video's (all regions) and can burn the films on CDR or DVD but since I have the Sony I hardly use it.

    Marianne,

That is a very good offer.

But I would not trust my copies of the series to the postal service! They
are irreplaceable, at least till the series is shown again (I hope!)

And since many of my tapes were recorded on the lp setting (to make the most
use of the tapes which was false economy but vhs cassettes were expensive
for me in those days) the quality is poor to start with, so making and
sending copies of these for transferring to DVD would not be a very good
    option either.

I am interested to know about the recorder you have and your opinion of it.

    Bill.

    Hi Carie,

In Dartmouth you will find Bayards Cove, this is the quay which is used most in series 1, 2 and 3 in combination with the quay in Exeter.

When your in Dartmouth it's nice to visit the pub just at the beginning at Bayards Cove as there are pictures of The Onedin Line taken during filming.

There are good sites on internet, use search Dartmouth and you get a lot.

will all help me?? The filming was in the Old Quay Exeter, as well as
Dartmouth harbour?? I would be grateful for help here, as I am going
to the West Country this weekend to visit friends, so I thought I
would take a trip as they aren't far from there, but I just wanted to
make sure I have the right locations so any help would be gratefully
received. I will take pictures etc, and share them, just thought it
would be nice to see what it looks like now!

    Thanks,

    Carie.
