    To all group members,

    Unfortunately is the new gilmore-stallybrass
site not officially launched at the moment. How some people got the new link….I
don’t know. What you see at the moment is a trial and when the site is
official up I’ll let you know.

    Hi Venatrix,

you can find infos about Peter Gilmore and Anne Stallybrass here
    http://www.gilmore-stallybrass.eu/

You can also find pics and infos (only in German, sorry) on my Onedin
    Line fanpage:
    http://www.onedinlinie.de

If you want to get infos about the ships in the series, I can help
you. I'm a real tall ship fan too and I do a voyage as trainee every
    summer. :-))

    Hi,

Anne and Peter (Anne and James) are
married and live in Barnes. They were seen on BBC4 last April and gave a small
interview about filming The Onedin Line. Both look very well.

Jessica Benton stopped acting after Onedin
and now lives in the country.

Brian Rawlinson and Howard Lang both died
    years ago.

Jill Gascoine now lives in the
    US . From Mary
Webster is nothing heard after Onedin but she’s still alive.

The Charlotte Rhodes was on fire in the
late 70s. The Soren Larsen is in Auckland
and you can make trips on it….but they’re very expensive.

You can find a lot of info re. Onedin and
    the actors on the Internet.

If you have more questions please ask.

    Kind regards,

    Marianne

    Hi Barbara,

Welcome to the group. I’ll try to
    answer all your questions.

    Don’t really know why
    Elizabeth is called Isabel
and Albert is Elmer in the German synchronization but likely the names are easier
    to pronounce.

The books re. The Onedin line (I recommend
    them all):

    The Shipmaster

    The Iron Ships

    The High Seas

    The Trade Winds

    The White Ships

    The Turning Tide

The book “The World Of The Onedin
Line” is a must have for an Onedin fan. The first section is about the
Onedin family, the second section reviews the reality behind the series; a good
historical review about real life in the 19th century about life on
the sailing ships and the last section is about the making of the series, how
they managed to film at sea and also what went wrong.

The Radio Times Special also gives inside
information and an overview about series 3.

At the moment only series 1 to 4 are
released on DVD. It’s likely that other 4 series will be released but don’t
    know when.

    Kind regards,

    Marianne

    Hi to all,
I just became a member a few weeks ago. Have been a fan of the Onedin
TV series since it showed on german TV, think in the 70's. Was thrilled
when I purchased my first tapes and DVDs and could listen to all of the
original voices and dialogs a few days ago. Funny but James's sister
    Elizabeth is
named Isabelle in the german TV episodes and books!??
Can anybody tell me if there are any further books after the "Iron
Ships"? Also can anyone recommend the following books: Cyril Abraham's
The Onedin Line : Turning Tide by Bruce Stewart, World of the " Onedin
Line" by Alison McLeay or "Your complete guide to the continuing
    story
of BBC1's " the Onedin Line"  and to the real life saga of the
    sea in
James Onedin's 1870s ( Radio Times' special.  What are they about? I
ordered most of the Series 1-4, ( on tapes or DVDs ) can you also
    obtain further episodes?
So lots of questions. To me, I was born in Plymouth ,
    MA , USA
    live in
    Germany
since 1968 and am married with 2 children. Also a member of
    bookcrossing.com.Thanks you for any answers.

    Hi Linda,

Series 3 and 4 are available at eBay,
bol.com and freerecordshop.com (as well as series 1 and 2). Don’t know if
you can play all region DVDs because series 3 and 4 are only available in
    region2.

    In the UK
they have only series 1 on DVD and 1 and 2 on video, the same in the
    US .

    Hi,

I am trying to obtain Series 3 of ONEDIN LINE< all I think I can get
is a VHS from the UK .
I don't think that would work, would it?  But, I guess a DVD would be OK,
    in the US ,
or elsewhere.  Please give me the possible address of any concern who can
    sell a Series 3 DVD.

Subject: Series 4 and maybe 5 and others on DVD?

Been away on holiday for a couple of weeks so catching up on my mail. I've not
got my DVDs of series 4 yet. For me it is very good news that these are now
available as my recordings of this series were done on a ropey old VCR I had at
the time. So I'll be glad to replace them.

I also need 2 episodes from series 5, "When Trouble Comes" and
"Rescue" to replace my bad versions then I have a complete series 5
on DVD, So if anyone has good quality tapes with these 2 episodes I'll do a swap.
You lend me the tapes and I'll send them back to you along with the complete
series 5 on DVDs or whatever else we can agree on.

Since it seems unlikely that further series will be released in the near future
I may be persuaded to do "swaps" for other TV series or maybe just
for the cost of covering materials and postage, if anyone is interested.

Almost all the rest of the series episodes of the whole series I have in good
enough quality to transfer to DVD, (my "just for fun" mail should
give an idea of the quality
http://www.sound-research.co.uk/clip.htm I must add another clip to this). I
think there are possibly 2 more episodes in my collection which are ok to watch
but fall below what I regard as acceptable for DVD, IIRC these are "No
Smoke Without Fire" and "Storm Clouds" there might be one or two
    more.

    Bill.

    PS

I've noticed that UK Drama is at the moment running series 1 The Onedin Line.
At the moment it is up to episode 13 Shadow of Doubt (today 4 to 5 pm BST). So
if anyone needs to needs to fill in some gaps in their collection time to get
    the recorder dusted off.

    Hi Desmond,

The quality is good, the way you may
    expect from a 70s film.

Subtitles can be switched off, the same is
for the Dutch releases series 1, 2 and 3.

Think the Dutch imports you’ve seen
are (illegal) copies……copied from TV with the subtitles on and no
    originals.

Hope you have enough info for the moment,
    can’t make a sample clip…..maybe I can but don’t know how.

    Kind regards,

    Marianne

    Hi Sue,
I hope you're pleased the Season 4, could you just answer me the
    following.
       1. How is the quality i.e. graininess,
colour/contrast/brightness. If anyone else has a copy of this or
Season 2/3 then a short sample clip (30 seconds or so) might be good
(or if you yourself know how the extract a clip form a DVD ?)
       2. Are the subtitles (in Dutch I presume) mandatory or can they
be switched off. I have seen Dutch imports where the subtitles
are 'burned' into the video image.

I am asking these questions as I have given up on a
    UK company
releasing this terrific series. Goodness knows, the US are even
releasing Dalla, Dynasty and The Waltons which pales into
insignificance compared to this great series.

    Cheers,

    Desmond.

    Welcome to the group.

Sarah Onedin was traveling a lot the last
series after Robert died. Have somewhere an interview in which is told why Mary
Webster left the series, will dig it out and let you know.

    Hi,

I've just joined the group, and immediately discovered that Series 4
can be obtained – I've placed my order already.

I have the Radio Times magazine that introduced Series 4 in 1976.
I've added its Onedin Line cover plus a picture of Elizabeth
(Jessica Benton)and James (Peter Gilmore) that appeared inside to
the Files, so have a look at those.

I particularly like Cyril Abraham's Onedin Line books. They're
not 'novelisations' as such, since there are many differences to the
way the story unfolds in print. What a talent he had for writing.

By the by, I've always wondered why Sarah Onedin didn't appear in
the last series. Does anyone know? I've never been able to find out.

    Hi to all,

I’ve called Memphis Belle and they’ll
try to release the other series but it’s difficult every time to get all
    settled with the rights.

I also promised you all to give more info
about the selling through MB but unfortunately I couldn’t get anything
done without being a whole seller and they don’t do business with small internet
    sellers.

Bol.com also sells the DVDs, for people
    outside Holland
the P&P is outrageous and for the Dutch only Euro 1.95 no matter how many
DVDs you buy. I took a look and the “normal” P&P to the
    UK will be
about EURO 3.50 (Dutch Post standards) so I’m willing to buy the DVDs and
send them to anyone of you. The box price is 22.95 at Bol.

After Easter I will visit the local shop,
know series 1-3 are Euro 19.95 each box and will inform if the price for series
4 will be the same. I can order the DVDs and it all will be cheaper.

Let me know if some of you like this idea.

Although MB said the release date should
be the 21st I already received the DVDs last Thursday.

I wish you all a Happy Easter!!!!

    Marianne

    Hi Pete,

    Welcome to the group.

Where did you get series 4??? Only series
1, 2 and 3 are released and the company who distributes the Dutch DVDs told me
last months there will be no series 4 because they have problems with the
    rights.

I also took a look at eBay and can’t
find anyone who sells series 4.

Hi folks, have just joined.  I've also just bought the first four
series via e.bay – they're English with Dutch subtitles; does anyone know if
any other series are available yet ?

Pleased to join the group.  The series was the best costume drama
ever – along with so many great memories of that fabulous decade – BBC at it's
best, we will never see the like of which again.

    Hi Susan,

    Welcome to the club.

I wonder if you’re right about
series 4……it’s never released on video or DVD. Do you know
when this was and who the seller is?

I myself check eBay every day and didn’t
    spot it.

    Kind regards,

    Marianne

Have just joined the group and read several of the messages–thought
    you may be interested to

know that both series 3 & 4 of The Onedin Line have recently
    (i.e. last week)  been listed

on EBay.  I was fortunate enough to win the bidding on Series 3
    and am currently enjoying

    viewing them.

So I'm keeping my eyes 'peeled' for Series 4-  even though my
    favourite character – Daniel

    Fogarty– is not featured !!!!

    Kind regards,

    Susan Lee
