    Hi to all,

    Finally the site is re-launched.

    Our apologies for
the site being unavailable over the past few months due to on-going problems
    with the web hosting company.

    We eventually
decided to transfer the site to a new host and as a result have a new domain
    name.

    Unfortunately,
    the
programme used by the new host was not compatible and meant the
site had to rebuilt from scratch which has further delayed the
    re-launch.

    But at last the
Anne Stallybrass & Peter Gilmore site is back!

    If you had a link
to the old site, please replace with our new addresshttp://www.gilmore-stallybrass.eu

    Kind
    regards,

    Hi,
like so many of then actors of the 50ies and
60ies, Nicolette Roeg  also performed in a number of more or less
    successful musicals.
You can get some  – very basic- information
    about her under
but there is no mention of any relationship
    to Nicolas!

is she?  I can safely say Ive never heard of her, and
    I do watc a lot
of TV and occasionally go to the theatre.  do you
    know if she's
related to Nicolas Roeg?  the name seems very
    similar..

    Hi,

just a small correction as far as the "Bloody Week"
eisode is concerned: the episode is not about the French Revolution
    (1789f),  but about the
    days of the
"Commune" in Paris (1871) which was in fierce opostion to the new national
assembly (which was gathering in Versailles). As far as history goes, the
"Bloody Week" was the week from 21st to 28th May 1871, in which
parliamentary troops finally  and "bloodily"defeated the
    communards.

As far as the timeline of the OL series is
concerned, a historian certainly needs a considerable share of
"flexibility", especially when it comes to series 4 and later ones.
But as far as that is concerned,  "poetic
licence" probably also stretches to film and TV.

    – Onedin Episodes Update/disappointed

Yes, the July schedule includes both the episodes that were
    cut from
the BBC/Playback videos - Cry of the Blackbird and Bloody Week
    (the
latter is about the French Revolution).

    Regarding your query
about the cut, I don't know if your example was
    cut, but many cuts were
made to the BBC/Playback and Dutch commercial
    released videos.  A lot
were very small cuts of a few seconds here
    and there, others were
longer.  A couple of examples of scenes cut:
    the scene at the
start of episode 3 where Anne is talking to her
    father and holds her
wedding dress; and in episode 4 the scene near
    the end involving James,
Robert and the companion in the warehouse.
The latter puts a very different
complexion on the outcome of the
    story.

    Hi Bill,

congratulations on the idea with the separate web
page and thanks for starting it so promptly!

As said before I'll contribute some summaries, but
may I suggest that those who set out to summarize particular episodes or series
drop a short line to the others ? It might help to avoid unnecessary
    doublings.

In answer to everyone who has contacted me about
this, thanks for the support and comments.

To start things off I have drafted a test web
    page at this location:

This sets out my basic idea, the page is an index
to each episode there will be a link to each page which has the description.

Please take a look if you are interested, any
    ideas / improvements are welcome.

If you want to contribute a description mail it
to me, it can be :-  email, notepad (.txt), Word (.doc) (.rtf), and
pretty well any other word processor format. Text only, no images. All
contributors will be credited on the page unless I am specifically asked not
    to.

I reserve the right to edit / alter them if
necessary for the purpose of making them into html
    pages.

I suggest descriptions are kept as concise
as possible, certainly no more than about the equivalent of one sheet of A4
    paper.

Also please notice the url for these pages may
alter as I am thinking of placing them on another server. I'll update everyone
on that when the time comes.

    Bill.

    Excellent!

I know some people have difficulty accessing
the group's web site, since this would be text I could easily find
space on my server for a web page with the info. This would then be
available from a simple url (web address).

Anyone who is interested send a description
to me and I will organise them into a webpage of all the episodes.

I think for the time being at least a very
simple outline of each story is all that is needed, they can always be
    expanded in the future.

This can be based on Diana's comprehensive
episode list. (If she does not mind). I'll start it off with a couple
of my own accounts and you can see what you think of it.

    Bill.

    Hi Bill,

    good idea to have descriptions
    of   a l l  episodes.

    There is a website available
with descriptions of the episodes in SERIES
    2 :
    http://www.tvtome.com/servlet/episode
    guide/summary/showid-1616s/season-all.

    If more group members
are interested in having descriptions, it might
    be a good idea to
share the task of providing them? I'd be willing to
    contribute a few
    descriptions, if
    necessary.

    Hi Fiona,

just to avoid misunderstandings: The information I gave last time was
about SERIES THREE which is newly available on the Dutch bol.com website!!!

    The versions of series ONE and TWO are the BBC versions (episodes cut;
two episodes missing; no separation between individual episodes).

    If you want the complete e p i s o d e s ONE to EIGHT from Series ONE:
There is a version of these episodes for the Canadian/American market
(available e.g. via Amazon.com); they consist of two parts with two
discs each (the cover gives a wrong impression because its photo is
obviously taken from one of the later series). They are region one, so
you will need a multi-region dvd player.

Hoping that I haven't caused any confusion, best wishes – Helga

    Hi Fiona,

1.Yes, they are every eipsode; and each episode is complete with
    credits, etc.
    2. They are in English with Dutch subtiutles; rthe subtitles can be
    turned off.
    3. They are region 2; so they should play on every British dvd player

I hope this answers your questions.

    Best wishes – Helga

(P.S.: The CD copies of the remaining series which Bill kindly made for
us are still with Carie, but she promised to send them on shortly)

    Hi Dino,

I'm very sorry to disappoint you, but the OL videos have already found a
    new berth. Sorry!
    Best wishes – Helga

    Hi Carie,
memphis belle is a Dutch firm which sells dvd versions of series One AND
of series Two of The Onedin Line.

Some time ago somebody mentioned that they were planning further
releases of OL. I emailed them several times to get more information
about that but so far I've never received any answer from them. (As I
don't speak Dutch I had to write to them in Enlish, perhaps that's the
reason for not getting an answer, but I doubt it…)

    on a British dvd player

re: CD distribution : If you let me have your address I will send on the

    Hi,

perhaps I can help clarify the "two dvds" available at memphis belle
(www.memphisbelle.nl): there are two SETS of dvds (each comprising
four dvds). Set one covers series one, set two is SERIES TWO (which –
as far as I'm aware – is not available as dvd by playback or any
    other British or American firm).
The sets quote a BBC copyright and use the BBC logo; the contents of
the dvds is identical to the BBC videos : episodes cut to to
approximately 45 minutes; episodes "Cry of the Blackbird" and "Bloody
    Week" missing.

The new series mentioned by Ans therefore – and this would be really
good news – can only refer to series three (or a later series). There
is, however, no mention of it yet in their present catalogue.
