"Availability: Not available because of a lawsuit or no rights for NL " according to the Google translator.

I wonder if this is because of permissions form one of the actors the actors?

Ah well just have to wait and see if the discs appear somewhere for sale.

There seems to be a problem with the rights of series 5.
    Read about it at http://www.vanstockum.nl/product/11167144/The-Onedin-
    Line-Serie-5.html
That causes the delay I suppose, and that's why you can't find or order
the box when you browse the different online shops.
A few boxes are for sale in Dutch Blokker shops though, but you need to
be lucky to find one :-(.
So most of us have to be patient again…

    http://www.dvdoutle t.nl/cgi- bin/web_store/ web_store. cgi

And can't even find any reference to it at
    http://www.bol.com

Anyone got series 5 from anywhere yet?

    Good News!

Well we've been waiting for a while!

The download ones are from my old VHS tapes that somehow got onto the internet! 😉

The quality was not outstanding because the tapes were not very good. I'll be getting my order in for series 5 as soon as I find somewhere that has them and will send to the UK.

Just to check, are they like the previous releases that have an English soundtrack with "turn-offable" subtitles?

    Bill.

DVD series 5 is now for sale !!! (25-11-2008)
I managed to get one, and was very happy, because there were only two
for sale in a 'Blokker' shop here in Vlissingen (Netherlands).
Finally we can watch these episodes on dvd and ofcourse this is of
much better quality( and more comfortable !)than a download on the
    computer.
Fortunately in series 5 they didn't cut the intro's and the credits,
so it's better than the previous ones from Memphis Belle.
It's very strange I couldn't find this dvd on the Memphis Belle
website, although it is licensed to them.
It's also for sale on the website of http://www.dvdoutlet.nl, but it's not
in stock at the moment, will be in a few weeks I suppose…
Hope this is of some help to some people !

    Hi, all –

A question for me if ever there was one! I'll dig out my discs of Series 3
and check this out this evening. Of course, the music adviser then was dear
Tony Isaac. I wonder how many of the group know anything about Tony, whose
passing was such a dreadful tragedy back in – when? – 1979. By then he had
moved on from Onedin Line to Warship and several other successful shows, and
was doing pretty well. Then his whole world collapsed in about a week. His
wife of six months left him, and – typical World of TV, I'm afraid – a
producer who had asked him to provide all the music for a new show (a very
big deal) was fired and replaced by someone else who brought his own
composer with him. Tony had just signed the papers on a big new house in the
country on the strength of this, and suddenly found himself about 50,000
pounds in the hole. I had the awful responsibility of telling producer
Geraint Morris that Tony had hanged himself soon after production started
    on Series 7.

Years later, I had the similarly awful task of calling round old Onedin
friends to tell them that Gerald Blake had been found dead in his flat in
1991. I was calling Gerry one morning to arrange lunch with him when a
strange voice answered the phone; it was a coroner's assistant. Gerry had
been going to treat me to lunch to celebrate my engagement to my present
wife. For reasons too awful to describe here, there was no real funeral for
Gerry's many friends to attend, and I was still meeting people five years
later who had no idea that he had died. I still miss him horribly to this
    day.

Anyway, watch this space for the music!

    Bill Scanlan Murphy

Baines is going to find a riverboat to go to Santarem. He is going to

and the music is quite romantic…(at least I think so).

    Welcome to the group.

Yes you have come to the right place, if anyone knows about the music score you mention, it will be one of our members.

Black Gold is from series 3, if it helps I'll rip the tune from the section of the soundtrack and put it up as a small MP3 at the group site for identification.

    I name that tune in………

    🙂

Here we are in October, I wonder if there is any news of S5 Memphis Belle
    have said they are releasing?

Memphis Belle is an unfortunate name for such an outfit as it make a Google

Oh! And while I'm here, welcome to several new members on here, things are

    Hi everyone.

I've not posted on here for ages but thought you might like to know
Memphis Belle have said they are releasing series five in October.

This may have been mentioned previously, if you want the complete
series two on DVD, this was released in Australia a few months ago.

Thanks Bill for the YouTube blooper. I enjoyed watching that. There
must be lots more in the BBC archives somewhere.

Although this is from a bloopers show, I remember seeing the clip many years (decades?) ago in a programme about the making of the series.

In this there was also interviews with other cast members, including the fabulous Ms Benton, also some background on locations, the ships used etc.

I keep searching the net for this (and anything to do with the Onedin Line) to see if the programme crops up somewhere – you never know.

Is anyone getting Series 7 and 8 via torrent? I was Music Adviser on those shows, and would do anything up to and including cutting throats to get copies. Is there any we we could …er… redistribute them via this group? Assuming standard-compression AVIs, it should be possible to get about 8 or 9 shows on a data DVD. Obviously, all expenses paid.'

    Hint, hint!
