    Bill,

I will gladly do this, I already offered to do this for Helga, but bearing in mind I use my Dad's equipment to do copies, I will literally only copy the copy you send if that makes sense!!

Many thanks again, Bill I am sure I speak for everyone, we appreciate the hard work this takes so that you may share with everyone else, on that note, I will gladly share, copy and pass them on, hoping that everyone will do the same.

    Thanks,

    Carie.

    Carie, and all list members,

So far I have captured the following to the pc hard drive with a view to distributing them to list members.

Dirty Cargo from series 7 (Was done as an experiment to see if people thought the format was acceptable to be able to see the episodes, from the feedback I have received it would seem they are.)

    And
    1_12CRY OF THE BLACKBIRD
    2_12BLOODY WEEK
3_1THE SHIP DEVILS Some of you already have this.
    3_2THE STRANGER
    3_3ECHOS FROM AFAR.
    3_4AMAZON CARGO.

This includes the 2 episodes one from series 1 and one from series 2 that were not released commercially.
(These have been mailed to Brenton in NZ so all you people in the Southern Hemisphere should talk to him if you want a copy).

And I am now continuing with the whole series.

So far just one more episode has been done:
    3_5 DANGER LEVEL.
(I have adopted this method of numbering the episodes: In the above file 3_5 means 3rd series 5th episode.)

    Now I come to distribution.

Working closely with nautnaut and Brenton, the Southern hemisphere and USA / Nth America are taken care of.

What I now want to do is find a list member in the UK / Europe who would like the rest of the episodes (1 episode on a CD-r) and who would undertake to make a copy to send on to another list member who will do the same and so on. Before long everyone would be catered for.

I only want to have to make copies to go to these 3 sources, since this part of it all costs me money, and 3 x 80 odd sets of blank media + postage even if spread over a period of time is significant cost (to me anyway).

To re-cap. I will only send out 1 copy for UK and Europe for free, whoever gets it must undertake to make at least 1
copy and forward it on to someone who will do the same.  A CD in a padded envelope (without the jewel case) is a first class stamp to anywhere in the UK. The most this should cost for one copy to Europe including the cost of a the purchase of a blank CD-r should be around £1, I think the postage was about 69 pence. Not much to receive an episode of the Onedin Line I would say.

All this has to fit in with other things I have to do so some patience will be needed, I suggest rationing the episode you watch to 1 per week for the time being!
So does anyone want to take part?

    Bill

(This does not apply to some people who for one reason or another have made special arrangements with me e.g.they have no CD burner).

    Bill,

Sorry to bother you about the discs you kindly did, but I need to know if you have done copies of any other of the episodes, other than Dirty Cargo, The Ship's Devil ?? perhaps you could answer this for Helga as she wanted to know, regarding further copies.

    Many thanks Bill,

    Hi Bill,

How wonderful of you to do this for everyone here, I would love a copy, and of course would be happy to do a copy, but let me clarify the format of the video files, so that I can check my source of copying has the right software to copy. Many thanks.

    Carie.

    Bill <william.whittaker1@ntlworld.com> wrote:

Good news I got my new capture card today and installed it.

I have had to give up on ice and fire at the moment because of the poor
condition of the VHS tape but I am hopeful that a rather better vcr than
mine might be able to get a reasonable copy of it, I'll see if I can borrow
    one.

As an experiment I have copied a series 7 episode entitled "Dirty Cargo"
partly because the tape was in reasonable condition and because it is a good
story all contained in one episode.

Using the best bit rate my old pc can manage this has resulted in a 480 Mb
file which will easily fit on a CD-r and will play with the Windows Media
player. It while not anywhere near DVD (or even good VHS) quality it is good
and not too bad to watch even on full screen on my 17" monitor.

So who wants a copy? I'll start the ball rolling with 2 on the understanding
    the
recipients will copy it and send on to other members of the list.

Bill (who has now found that to work the capture card and software with all
their features now needs a major pc upgrade!)

Thankyou so much for all your info, that has definately given loads to think about, as my time is short, I don't think I will be able to visit, Exeter as well, as it is about 40 miles i think from dartmouth, but when I visit again I will do the visit. I will definately look out for Peter and Anne, I heard they have a cottage there?? I can't wait to go now, I am really looking forward to it..

    Hi Bill,

What a great idea! As I am a great big fan of Michael's I know one of his favourite episodes was FIRE and ICE, he mentioned it when I met him so perhaps you might like to do that one, I would love to see what he is talking about, he describes this episode as a classic, as you all know he loved the character of Fogarty, it is funny, I have only came across The Onedin Line because of Michael, as I was little when it was shown on tv I always remembered the music!! I have all the episodes from series 1 and 2 and love watching them over and over, especially Mike (daniel) his portrayal is wonderful, although I haven't seen Tom Adams as Daniel, he worked with Mike when he was episode of UFO!! I personally think that Mike's role as Fogarty was some of his best acting.

Sorry enough from me, but it is so nice to talk to people who appreciate what I am saying (I Hope!)

I have every episode on tape but it is not really feasible to copy / share
    them on vhs.

Quite apart from any legal implications.

The sheer number of episodes (IIRC 90+) and the time it takes to copy them
is the start of the problem. Not all are very good quality although they can
all be viewed and copied. Then there is the problem of posting the cassettes
which is comparatively costly in itself and mounts up, as something in the
region of 30+ cassettes would be needed for the
    entire series!

What I am looking into is to perhaps copy SOME of the episodes as AVI files
onto my pc and then see if I can make one episode fit on a CD-R. This could
then be viewed on any pc with Windows Media Player. The quality might not be
wonderful but you would see the episode.

The obvious advantage is that the media is cheap to buy and send through the
post. Such discs can be copied quickly and with no further loss of quality
and then could be sent to another group member. You get one, make a copy (if
you can) and send it to someone else and so on, no cash changes hands so
perhaps the legal copyright situation is better although of course
technically it would still be against the law.

So I'll ask this question, is there an episode that has not been released
that anyone particularly would like and I will make it the basis of an
experiment to see if the idea is workable? Would everyone like now to vote
    which
    episode?

    No promises,

    Opinions?

    Bill.

I will join in, my favourite Onedin character is Daniel Fogarty.

I would like to know if there is anywhere you can get the whole Onedin series, I only have 1st and 2nd, and really annoyed that I can't get anymore episodes, I am sure no more have been released, I was only a child when the series was first shown, I remember my mum watching every week LOL.
