Do start now, Bill! I've been going at it since last December, and I'm only now getting into Series 7. (Life gets in the way and definitely slows things down.) And yes; at some point I'll be starting from the beginning again. I just have no idea how long it will take me to get through the rest of Series 7 and 8. (I just finished Ep 2 of Series 7, and – Wow! What an ending to that one!)

Must admit it has been a while since I watched the series, I don't actually
    remember what happened about this.

It seems to take a few months or so for me to go through the whole series so
maybe it is time to start again!

Yeah. I sort of figured someone's e-mail was hijacked or they picked up a virus/malware. If I open an e-mail with this sort of link in it I never click on it; I usually just ignore it.

If this happens to anyone, update your antivirus/spyware/malware defs, reboot your computer in SAFE MODE and run the antivirus, etc. from there. Sometimes these things can hide themselves once they're up and running, but booting in SAFE MODE only beings up the essential functions. The viruses and such don't have time to activate, and therefore can't hide from the antivirus app.

On the odd occasion where this has happened to me and my antivirus didn't find anything, running it in SAFE MODE found some nasties and was able to get rid of them.

You can ignore this. I've been having problems with my AOL not sending me my Group posts (or letting me send any to my Group). I think I got the problem solved so I just want to check to see if I get this one, which I'm posting from the Yahoo! Group site.

Flip for Mac is a serious pain in the fundament. VLC is my player of

    Hi, Linda,

Just curious, but is the computer in question a Mac? I ask because my Mac used to play AVIs (which lots of my video files are), and one day I got the "automatic 'Flip for Mac' update" which was supposed to enhance both Quicktime's and Windows Media Player For Mac's abilities for playing a frackload of video file extensions (including AVIs).

After downloading the "update" and running the install I found that my Mac no longer plays AVis. It says to play AVis I need to download the "Flip for Mac AVI Player for Quicktime" (which I then did). And after installing that, still no more AVIs on the Mac, and it says I need to download… (The wife calls it the "lather, rinse, repeat" syndrome.)

So I still use the old "Type-40" PC for viewing my AVIs.

OK… I'm starting to beg now. After repeated attempts to register with Rareshares I'm pulling a dead end. This site will not allow me to use the "Sign up" button even though I've completed all the required (and optional) fields.

I've tried downloading the RAR versions of the episodes I'm missing from bergfiles.com, as well as other sites, and just as before my computer hiccups once, burps twice, and then barfs all over the place (metaphorically, of course, but hopefully you get my meaning; my computer absolutely hates anything to do with RARs).

Can anyone help me with locating an AVI version of Series 4 Eps 3 and 8, and Series 7 Ep 4? Why these three episodes aren't included in bergfiles.com's lists of TOL AVIs when they've got the rest of the entire Series is beyond me, and searching the net is only yielding additional frustration (and Rareshares' lack of letting me register isn't helping).

I know these episodes run between 350 and 570MB in AVI format, so e-mailing is out. But if anyone has found links to these three Eps in AVI and would share those links with me, or has them in AVI (or can rip them in AVI from a DVD as I've heard some people can do) and would put them on Megaupload and send me the links, I would be very appreciative.

    Thanks,
    Dino.

    Greetings, All,

I've been scouring several sites (Rapidshares, Megaupload, http://www.bergfiles.com) looking for TOL episodes and I've managed to find download links to AVI files for all of TOL episodes, especially by searching "The Onedin Line" on bergfiles; that is, except for three episodes. The one's I've downloaded so far play great on my computer (though at 350MB-550MB per episode, they're filling up what's left of my hard drive so I plan to put them on an external drive, and eventually transfer them to DVD-Rs).

Anyway, the three episodes that seem to be missing from the bergfiles' extensive AVI lists are:

Series 4, Ep 3 "Not Wanted On Voyage"
    Series 4, Ep 8 "Shipwreck"

Series 7, Ep 4 "Dirty Cargo"

A couple of those are listed in bergfiles as RAR files, but my computer has never done well with RARs. It seems to absolutely hate all of the RAR extraction apps.

So does anyone know where I can find these episode files in AVI that I can download? Or does anyone have these as AVIs that they'd be willing to put someplace like Megaupload and send me the links so I could download them?

Since I'm finding it impossible to find TOL, in any complete form, on DVD for Region 1 (even though my DVD player is region free, my TV can't play PAL format), these AVIs are the only way I'm able to view these episodes. So with the above three missing I don't have a complete set, and while most of Series 1 that I've been watching seem to be stand-alone stories, they are part of the whole saga and some occasionally refer to things that have happened in previous episodes. So missing one can leave vital gaps in the whole story line.

Any and all help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dino.

I think as long as there was no monetary exchange for the scripts it should be fine. I'm a member of another group for fans of a little-remembered US series called 'Search' (the pilot was titled 'PROBE', and I believe the series aired in the UK as 'Search Control'). That series ran from September 1972 to May 1973, 23 episodes (24 counting the pilot). That group has a separate site with some vid caps from each episode, and has all 24 scripts in PDF that can be freely downloaded.

Warner Brothers (the producers) are well aware of the site and group because the group has been pushing, begging, etc., to have the series released on DVD. It's worked; Warner Archive Collection has recently released the pilot on DVD, and the series is forthcoming. And Warner hasn't issued a "cease and desist" to the group or the site for the scripts posted there, again probably because there is no money involved.

So as long as no one is making a profit from donation, scanning, and posting of the scripts there shouldn't be a problem. It's no different than someone making a copy of episodes and giving them to someone. Now if these were being sold it would be another story. But we're not selling anything.

Yeah, unfortunately. The only TVs I'd found that had the capability of playing NTSC and PAL formats had costs that were equal to a semester's worth of tuition (in-state), or room and board for my daughter's college. (And while my GI Bill is paying for her college tuition, guess which of the other two – TV vs. Room and Board – won out?)

I've actually e-mailed both the BBC and 2|entertain (and one other I can't remember who have produced official TOL DVDs) asking them about releasing more TOL DVDs for Region 1 because there were many fans in the US that would like to buy them, and I got what was basically canned replies from each one – that whole "We strive to provide the best service to our customers and your comments are very important to us…" From there they went on to explain how they relate to customers and review their feedback – pretty much degenerating into another few paragraphs of "Blah, blah, blah. We thank you for your input."

What I can't understand is why the BBC is ignoring this side of the pond when it comes to TOL when just about every other program they've produced is available for Region 1. IMHO, if you can get an obscure series like "Space Precinct" in Region 1, then you should be able to get TOL in Region 1 as well. (And for the record, I do like the Gerry Anderson series, all of them so far.)

You can't rely on the quality of the copies (or the person selling them), but mainly it does not show up on the copyright holder's feedback (in this case, probably the BBC) as a sale of their product, which in turn makes it looks like there isn't much of a demand for the series, and therefore the BBC is less likely to release more of them.

Ah… so it's the old "right-click-and-save-as" trick, eh? (Yes, I also love 'Get Smart'.)

But that might explain why my browsers kept crashing. I'll try that.

    Dino.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to check out the rareshares site. For some reason the dropbox sample you gave me the link to keeps crashing my browsers.

I might just keep checking ebay and Amazon, though, like you suggest. I'm not much of a fan of, as you say "illegal" copies.

    Thank you!
    Dino.

I don't know about the iOffer site, I have not had dealings there.

What I can say that obviously they are copies, therefore not official releases and could be technically termed as 'illegal'.

If the technicalities do not worry you, and you have a braodband connection then a better possible approach may be to join one of the private sites which share old TV programmes.

One such fairly recent new site is http://rareshare.me , I believe that sign-up is at the moment open, so there should be no trouble in joining.

There are already several onedin line series available there, and it is expected that all will be before very long.

It is not necessary to part with any money at all if you follow the rules of the site.

The quality of the video is, really little different form the DVD they were sourced from.

    There is a sample here:

Alternatively if you want to you can buy all the episodes on official DVD releases, from places like eBay and Amazon.

    Hope this helps.
