Know many people wrote to Memphis Belle (including me several times).
Most didn't get an answer or one after sending umpteen e-mails..

This is indeed great news for us all on here.I was working on series 5 cleaning up the old vhs tapes I have and converting them to DVD. I have several bad tapes which were holding up the process, and created an awful lot of work in various software apps to get even a few seconds at a time of acceptable video. So now I'll move on to converting series 7, and 8 to complete my collection. (I've already done series 6) Then I'll have the luxury of replacing my home made discs with the releases as they are (hopefully) issued to complete the full story.
I for one kept on asking them, and I think the fact that we have contacted the companies to release the series has made them realise just how popular the Onedin Line is. I'm sure there must be a big potential for sales as people discover (and re-discover) this wonderful story.

As long as the DVD player is region free there shouldn't be much

Yes, you get that! It's not solveable unless you can find a hack for
your specific player. The alternative is to buy a region-free player
– currently these are around $60 Australian (less in US$) so it's not
a huge outlay. I have a Telefunken one which is region-free and there
are other brands as well. The salespeople do not always tell the
truth (I've been caught) so check the actual machine before you hand
over your cash. There should be a little stylized world on the back
with either a O (zero) or perhaps a 9 or no picture of the world at
all. Or take a disk of another region with you to check it in the shop.Also, I see questions about format too. NTSC or PAL. Both TV sets,
video tape players and DVD players will play either format without
any modification. This ability has been built into these machines for
at least 10 years since it's a matter of installing a chip which
covers both rather than fiddling in the factory putting chip A into
one order and chip B into another order. So buy either format with
confidence if your TV and player/s are less than 10 years old.I amazes me that TV programmes, which were never in cinemas at all
and mostly now are not even on cable TV should be "regionalised". I
have TV programmes which are region-free and ones with varying
regions on them. My understanding was that the regions provided a
measure of protection for makers of films and cinema owners so that
people didn't have access to DVDs before the film had made its money
in a particular country. I don't see how that situation applies to TV
programmes! Perhaps someone on this list might have some definite
information on regions for ex-TV programmes.And while I'm on regions and so on: I've finally found a Linux distro
which already contains the codecs to play commercial encrypted disks
on a computer; it's Mint main and available on an instal disk from On-
disk in the States. For those of us playing with Linux, getting those
codecs has proved a major headache.It's great that Memphis Belle finally responded to someone. I, too
wrote and received not one word. I wrote again saying I'd heard they

This is where I found out that my dvd player had a region free hack (which you can see because the URL leads to the dvd player I have). But if you search for your type of dvd player, maybe it has a solution.

My Sony DVD recorder is currently Region 2 but can be made region-
free if needed for about £25 (about $50) if I need this in the
future. As has been said, there may be a hack out there for you. The
other option is to buy a new region-free DVD player as prices are
tumbling. A Google search for "region-free DVD player" has brought up
over 1 million hits, and the first website I looked at had some very
cheap multi-region players, also several sites with hacks for

Scout around all the local retail outlets and make a list of what's on offer, then when you get home check them against the on the DVD help site for region hacks. (Many of the cheaper DVD players I've seen on offer in supermarkets are listed). I pay around 20 to 30 UK Pounds for the ones around my home, all of them will play NTSC as well as PAL discs. Hello everybody, hope we are all well and getting in the mood for the
forthcoming Christmas/New Year celebrations.Our household is once again starting with series 1 episode 1 of the Onedin
Line story, really it never loses anything no matter how many time I see it.
It has taken something like 2 years of occasional viewing, mixed in with all
the other programmes we watch, to get to episode 91 "A Long Way Home" and
now we are back at the beginning again.Looked around on the web, still have not seen any mention of series 5 being
released yet. Anyone heard anything?Also I'll take this opportunity to welcome new members who have joined us in
the last few months, please say hello and introduce yourselves.In fact lets hear from anyone with any comments about the Onedin Line!

a satellite TV channel here in the UK. I recorded all of them except for
some I already had from a previous BBC repeat in 1984 which was of the first
series.The technical quality of some of these off-air recordings leaves something
to be desired, fortunately most if the bad ones are now replaced by the
commercial releases of series 1, 2, 3 and 4.The last repeats in the UK were IIRC on UKTV Drama in 2005 of series 1 and
2, much criticised at the time on our list, because the broadcaster had made
some cuts to important scenes to fit in adverts and silly "what was on next

to buy a piece of software which will copy a DVD regardless of region
encoding into other formats such as DivX or the iPod's mp4 format
without the region encoding. There are several available for all
platforms (Windows, Mac & Linux). The one I use is called "Fair
Use" (the name refers to the slightly tested legal principle that
one is permitted to make a copy of a legitimately purchased music or
video product if the copy will only be used for one's personal use).
