28th October 2003 at 8:31 am #164merligoMemberHi,
First a belated welcome to Brenton. It's lovely to see that the
Onedin Line is still popular in so many countries. In answer to Bill's question about the DVDs, there are two versions
available – one from Playback and one from BFS.Playback have released all of series one on DVD in two sets so far
and I assume (hopefully soon!) will release series two. These are
exactly the same as the BBC videos i.e. the episodes have been edited
together. A complete set of series one (I think) is due for release
any day now from Choices Direct.BFS, who I believe are a Canadian company, have released two sets of
DVDs. These cover episodes one to eight of series one and are the
complete episodes, with credits at start and end of each episode. I
am not positive but I think these are region 0 so will work on any
DVD player. FYI the BFS DVDs and videos have the cast photo from the
later series on the front cover i.e. with Jill Gascoine, Tom Adams,
Laura Hartong, etc. These are available from Amazon.com and other
US/Canadian sites. The picture quality on both sets is very good – better than the BBC
videos but maybe that's because my videos have been played so much!Personally, I would recommend getting the BFS version as the episodes
are uncut, plus it's a joy to see them as they were first broadcast
with Khachaturian's beautiful music opening and closing each episode.BFS currently have no plans to release more episodes on DVD/video but
I guess the more people who buy them, and also contact the company
requesting a further release, the more likely they are to change
their minds. So PLEASE everyone send BFS an e-mail asking them to
release more episodes of The Onedin Line!!Regards,

Welcome to the club.
I wonder if you’re right about
series 4……it’s never released on video or DVD. Do you know
when this was and who the seller is?I myself check eBay every day and didn’t
spot it.Kind regards,
Marianne
