I just joined this group. I'm really surprized that there's a
group dedicated to the wonderful BBC series. I know what episodes I
saw (back in the late 70s early 80s) I enjoyed. I happen to like
    sailing stories/series.
Does anyone happen to know if this series is available in the US
preferably on DVD as I like that formant better? I am aware of the
problems with the UKs videotape (PAL) and ours (VHS). Does the same
    problem exist on the DVDs?
Anybody know if there's talk of reviving the series? Maybe with
new actors or bringing back the old one?

Then you have definitely found the right place.

The first 2 series are available on DVD, try searching Amazon, Google etc.

Also, Marianne tells us that series 3 will be available soon from
    http://www.nl.bol.com .

But did you know there were 8 series of the Onedin Line made, consisting of
    91 episodes?

Although I am no expert, all I can tell you is that I can play DVDs from
anywhere in the world including the USA which has a different TV system
(NTSC) and a different DVD region to the UK where I live. This is because
most DVD players can be easily "unlocked" or "hacked" to allow this (and the
output suits the local TV system in the region the DVD player was sold).
    Go to:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks and see if your player is listed, or to
its manufacturer's home page sometimes the instructions are there!

    I very much doubt it.

    Hi,
I'd like to thank all that assisted me in finding this series on
DVD. Just a note to let everyone know Barnes and Noble Booksellers
has it listed on their website as available. About $40. It's Series
1 and 2. There are 4 DVDs per season and each series is available
    separately.

If these are the same ones as at Amazon.com, there are only 4 episodes in
each (2 DVDs per set) and both sets are, I believe, from the first season.

This is the link for set 2 which I have:
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00006SA90/qid=1095915980/sr=8
    -1/ref=pd_ka_1/103-3725692-3894225?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846
(These are Region 1 in NTSC)

    Hi Cari,
I'm not sure. It appeared from the ad that it was
the complete series 1 and 2 (possibly a few eps
    missing.
