Yes you are correct, my memory was a little vague
on this. This page gives a good overview:

TV system compatibility is something else that
needs to be checked, as I say all the players I've had in the UK
could handle USA NTSC discs (once the region free hack was implemented) and
plays them on my PAL TV, from this I assume the reverse should be true, i.e. USA
players will do the same with PAL discs to NTSC TVs. Do a search in Google for
more information.
