First a warning to those of you who live outside UK, Middle East, Western
Europe, Central Europe, Egypt, French overseas territories, Greenland,
Japan, Lesotho, South Africa and Swaziland, this is DVD region 2.If you live outside this area you may have equipment that will possibly not
play these region 2 discs, (the region setting was strictly applied by
player makers in the beginning, however some manufacturers of DVD players
now freely supply information on how to disable regional lockout, and on
some recent models, it appears to be disabled by default.)In New Zealand your region is 4, along with Australia, Central America, the
Caribbean, Mexico, Oceania and South America. Full list of regions here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_codeYou should check you equipment can play a particular disc region before you
buy DVDs from that region. A very useful site to get around this problem for
many makes of player is here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks Many players
can be made region free by following the instructions, enter the player
make/model in the search box. Often you can find the info on the makers own
website.Onedin DVDs. I bought some of my DVDs from here (they now offer the first 4
series) http://tinyurl.com/2nox5u (enter onedin in the DVD search field).
The rest I got from eBay.Slight problem for English only speakers like myself is the bol.com site is
in Dutch. I managed with http://babelfish.altavista.com/
I think bol.com will send to any address in the world, perhaps those on this
list who speak the language might take a look at the site and see if this is
so?There is a new release of series 1 soon which promises to be better than the
ones on offer at the moment, these are as originally broadcast, and not
edited together episodes with some omissions as on the present series 1 and
2 DVD releases.I think this release is the one referred to at the bottom of page "Onedin
Line – Series 1 (Import) (Nog niet verschenen – U kunt deze titel
reserveren)"Series 3 and 4 are as originally broadcast. You can read about this by
looking at previous messages on the group's web page:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/shiponedingroup/More info from my Onedin DVDs:
Series 1 and 2 DVDs, are reported by DVD Decrypter software to be region 1,
2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 (effectively they play anywhere in the world) although the
packaging states they are region 2 only. (I would be interested to know if
anyone else owning these discs could confirm this, or maybe I've got an odd
batch of region free).
Series 3 and 4, DVD Decrypter reports them as region 2 so will not play in
any other region. The new release of series 1? Perhaps someone can tell us what region(s)
these are when they get them?Bill.
PS Take a look at my (unfinished) website at http://tinyurl.com/2z7z8v for
some more about the series and links to other sites and actors info. -
