23rd February 2004 at 9:17 am #206merligoMemberCalling all shipmates,
There hasn't been much activity from the group of late plus some
members haven't posted much so I thought that if we held a few poles
perhaps that would get everyone participating a bit more.I'll collate the votes and confirm the winner (assuming there are
sufficient responses!).To start things off …..
WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE ONEDIN CHARACTER?
You can give reasons if you wish.
Voting closes midnight GMT 29 February (next Sunday evening). My vote goes to the wonderful Anne Onedin.
Hope everyone will take part.
Diana23rd February 2004 at 9:22 am #207enrichening_nezMemberHi,I will join in, my favourite Onedin character is Daniel Fogarty.I would like to know if there is anywhere you can get the whole Onedin series, I only have 1st and 2nd, and really annoyed that I can't get anymore episodes, I am sure no more have been released, I was only a child when the series was first shown, I remember my mum watching every week LOL.CarieDiana <moonroll@ntlworld.com> wrote:

also Daniel Fogarty. Both are great parts and Jessica & Mike are great
actors. Former I was head in ears in love with Isabel… 😉 When I
think about their pathetic love story I can see a part of my own life.
Because I´ve got relatet experiences of life like Daniel…Mathias
23rd February 2004 at 1:03 pm #209liamegan2000MemberFor me it has to be Jessica Benton (Elizabeth). Her role was played to perfection and what a part it was. From the petulant
shop girl who did not really know what she wanted to Lady Fogarty who
definitely knew!Almost equal in my opinion was Michael Billington – Daniel Fogarty. The part
was later played by Tom Adams who did a fine job, but the 'real' Fogarty is
always
Michael in my mind. This is what makes it one of the truly great classic series, so many very
good roles played by so many very good actors.I doubt it will ever be equalled again.
Bill.

23rd February 2004 at 9:00 pm #211KoenheinMemberHi,My favourite character is Elizabeth (Jessica Benton) and for the male
part Baines (Howard Lang). I've met him in person at his home just
before he died and he was so very kind.Is there anybody out there who has series 3 taped on video and the
first 3 of series 4? I've got all other episodes taped (even the ones
not included on the dvd/videos that came out.Regards,

This is also an opportunity to thank You and Bill being the heart
of this this group so far.My vote goes to James Onedin-Peter Gilmore.
The Onedin Line wouldn't be The Onedin Line without him.I was on my early thirties when I watched Onedin Line for the first
time in the seventies and Peter was fabulous then and still is after
30 years, when I was lucky to see The OL again last year.My Onedin colection is lacking the episode called Cry for Blackbird
from the series 1.Best regards Maija
23rd February 2004 at 9:32 pm #213ivaradiKeymasterI think all the actors in the series were
outstanding in their individual roles. I am unable to pick just
one.Edwardstyle="PADDING-RIGHT:0px;PADDING-LEFT:5px;MARGIN-LEFT:5px;BORDER-LEFT:#000000 2px solid;MARGIN-RIGHT:0px;">

Diana and the rest of the crew,My
vote would be spilt between James Onedin and the oft
forgotten Mr. Baines………Howard Lang did a wonderful job bringing that
character to life, he really dose look and act the part of a crusty old sea
dog!Excellent to see the interest from this pole.C'yaBrenton.—–Original Message—–

> DianaHi everybody,
my favourite character has always been James Onedin. As Maija already
has pointed out, the whole series would be unthinkable without Peter
Gilmore. You could find a substitute for Robert for some time, but
this would never do with James Onedin. My favourite female character is of course Anne. She is such a tough
woman with a strong will matching her husband`s. And as Cyril Abraham
stresses in his Onedin books, she is truely "a most remarkable woman"!Erika
