Hello Istvan,
I'm afraid I have to contradict your theory. In fact, it was the other
way round: The shipping line was named after the TV-series!
When the shipping line was founded, back in the seventies, "The Onedin
Line" was very popular in Sweden. In Swedish the series is called
"Onedinlinjen". Maybe the owner of the shipping company hoped some of
the series' success would also fall upon his business when he called
it "Anedinlinjen" (the pronunciation is really the same). But it
remained a small company, owning only one ship which is mostly used as
a ferry between Stockholm and Mariehamn.
To my knowledge there is no Swedish name like "onedin" or "anedin",
but possibly our Swedish members can tell us more about that. I think
that the name "onedin" actually is a creation of Cyril Abraham.
By the way, can you tell us how "The Onedin Line" is called in Hungarian?
