No, it just left all the "threads" running in the story.

I would guess that the outline of the saga was already planned well past
this point, maybe even exists somewhere…

One obvious twist for the script writers would have been Daniel Fogarty
miraculously turning up again (adrift in an open boat for weeks type of
thing) just as Elizabeth started with some new dalliance!

James had a new son, so there's a story to continue for another 20 years at
least! Charlotte was beginning to develop as a more sensible adult with her
own aspirations, in fact there is a rich potential harvest of stories, it
could have gone on and on. Like everything financial constraints held sway
in the end.

Thanks to info from Diana we know that the 8th season of The Onedin
Line was planned to be the last one. What do members think about the
last couple of episodes? Did they tie-up all loose ends and finish
this magificant saga satisfactorily?
