'Elisabeth' and 'Albert' are well known and useable in Germany too,
but this names was a little vintage and out in the 70's.
'Isabel' and 'Elmer' sounds more modern and it's possible, this was the
cause of renaming. Could be, the renaming was an idea of the synchron
studio team. By the way, the German voices of the Onedin characters
are very well known and popular actors and synchron speakers. James'
voice is Christian Br├╝ckner, the standard voice of Robert deNiro and
Elmer's voice is the same like Tom Selleck's in 'Magnum'.
