15th August 2003 at 3:45 pm #95merligoMemberI have purchased both the BFS and Playback DVDs. The picture quality
on both is good but the big advantage of the BFS ones is that the
episodes are complete whereas the Playback ones are the same as the
BBC videos i.e. they are cut and run into each other.Unfortunately, BFS have only released the first eight episodes and
currently have no plans to release more. As fenchel2b suggests,
perhaps if everyone contacts BFS it might encourage them to bring out
the rest of series one and also series two.I saw virtually all the episodes when they were first screened on
BBC1 in the 1970s and 1980 but I stupidily missed the repeats on UK
Gold. Unfortunately, UK Gold/Drama currently have no plans to show
Onedin Line again but perhaps if they received lots of requests they
would change their minds as I would love to get series three onwards
on video as well as the complete series one and two.I have collected a fair amount of information about most of the cast
(especially Anne Stallybrass & Peter Gilmore), so if anyone has any
questions, I would be glad to answer if I can.Merligo

local public library has these VHS versions, and in my area a DVD set is
supposed to be available for loan soon. Before I buy anything I will see
what episodes are included and if they are cut and run into each other or
are in original episode order.Naturally I would not try to copy these (!)
😉

There are also a few DVDs which are Region 0 and can be played on any
equipment. Unfortunately, the Onedin Line DVDs of series one
released in the UK by Playback are Region 2. I also believe series
one, two and three available from a Dutch company are Region 2 but am
not positive (I'm at work at present so can't check mine). These can
also be purchased on eBay.However, in Europe you can buy multi-region DVD players which will
play DVDs from any region. Don't know if you can get multi-region
DVD players in the US but I understand it's quite a simple process to
convert the equipment to multi-region (don't ask me how as I'm not
that technical!).More more info on DVD regions:

I certainly recommend you purchase the two BFS Onedin Line sets on
DVD. Enjoy!Regards,
Diana22nd March 2005 at 11:52 pm #98bafiboMemberHas anyone seen the new Australian DVD edition of season one
(http://www.dvdbits.com/reviews.asp?id=2666)? It is coded region 4,
but with a multi-region player it should not be a problem to see it
elsewhere than Australia.
The given overall running time of 750 minutes would account for 15
episodes of 50 minutes but I cannot find an episode list. The short
contents descriptions of the four DVDs could be written for the BBC or
dutch edition as well.
At another address
(http://www.dvdorchard.com.au/Product.asp?PND=111856) the same edition
is to include five DVDs instead of four but with only 632 minutes
contents. That does not make sense at all.
I would much like to know if this edition is cut like the others or not.— In shiponedingroup@yahoogroups.com, "Diana" <moonroll@n…> wrote:

DVD is presented as one episode, ie. as a compilation of 3 or 4
episodes. I believe that region 2 DVD was also presented like this.Cheers,
Megan.

one after each other, without a break or the title music. The good thing
is, that you have a whole season with one of these sets.Reinhard from Austria

that more DVDs have been released. Only recently saw the first season,
so I'm keen to buy others cause I've never seen the show previously.
I'm looking to buy the dutch sets, but I have to find a retailer the
doesn't charge heaps for postage to Australia.Cheers,
Megan.

Onedin Line quite cheaply at ebay and some sellers are shipping
worldwide.I just did a search and came up with the following example, the second
series for 20 Euros, plus 6 Euros shipping to any place in the world.
Sounds not to bad, eh? 🙂http://cgi.ebay.at/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=41588&item=6380793798&rd=1

has all episodes complete with start and end

of about 20 pounds, so that price is a lot better. However, since I
last posted I found freerecordshop.com (or freerecordshop.nl) that has
it for about 20 euro, plus their postage costs only 3.50, versus the
18 euro that bol.com was going to charge me!Cheers,
Megan.

postage shouldn't take too long. It usually takes about 5 days to a
week from the UK, so I expect from the Netherlands it shouldn't take
more than two weeks.Cheers,
