Series 1 – Great News!!

Could be the video quality will also be better than the Memphis Belle
releases.

Now it would be even better if series 2 (including "Bloody Week") were also
released, not to mention series 5 onwards to complete the collection! – I
suppose that is asking too much.

An update to the message I left yesterday:

According to several sites on the internet, 2 Entertain is releasing
series one of The Onedin Line in the UK on DVD in full and as
originally broadcast.

This means episode titles at the beginning and end of each episode
(rather than only at start and end of each disc) and no cuts.
Presumably the episode Cry of the Blackbird will also be included.
Series one has never before been commercially available in its
entirety anywhere so it's excellent news.

And not too long to wait – release date is 16 April.

It will be on five discs and the retail price £39.99.

Sendit.com and hmv.co.uk both have it available to pre-order at
around £30.00.

One disappointing note, according to 2 Entertain there will not be
any extras.

Just hope the release goes ahead as planned and there's no last
minute cancellation or change.

If sales are good, maybe series two will also be released in full.

If I learn any more, I'll post it on shiponedin.

Apologies for not posting much the last few months but I've been
manic at work (12+ hours most days plus weekends)

according to the item description on the BBC shop page, this edition of series one will actually contain 15 episodes,i.e.includinmg CRY OF THE BLACKBIRD. – Good news,indeed.

If you wanted the discs from the UK or Europe Depends on 2 things,

1. If the BBC shop or other retailers will ship to the USA (if this was a
problem, I'm sure I or someone else on the list could forward them on from
the UK if you were prepared to pay the postage).

2. They are region 2 DVDs which means they should not play on players sold
in North America, which is region 1. BUT……….

The region thing is not to do with the content of the disc, that will play
anywhere in the world on any player, but there is a level of protection
built into the player meant to enforce copyright and distribution policies
in different markets around the world. In practice very many, if not all,
players can be made region free by following the instructions for a
particular model on this website:

that put you off.

For information the DVD regions are:

1 USA, Canada & US Territories
2 Europe, Japan, South Africa, Middle East (including Egypt)
3 South East Asia, East Asia (including Hong Kong but not China)
4 Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Central & South America, Caribbean and
Pacific Islands.
5 Former Soviet Union, Indian Subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and
Mongolia
6 China (excluding Hong Kong)

Thanks for posting this website Bill, unfortunately my model is not
listed so I will be hoping to get the discs some other way.

Try using Google to search for Name Model
region hack (Eg Toshiba 4990 region hack). You might be lucky. Some are even
on the manufacturer's own websites!

Another thing to consider is buying a cheap player which is listed on the
site and can be made region free, (some start at about £20 – £30 sold in the
UK I assume you will see bargain models in the US
too).
